And here are the steps: - Install voicemeter and reboot (very important to reboot in this case) - Under VB audio under start menu start voice meter program - On the far left under hardware input click the 1 at the top and select your microphone - Still in the first strip click A to turn it off but leave B on - Second strip click A and B to turn them off - Third strip click A off and leave B on - Fourth strip the hardware out should default to your speakers (A1 A2 you don't need to mess with). Nexus 5 users have reported about a microphone issue. Does anyone else have this problem or similar? Was very very low, even when using sound voice recorder. However, when skyping with friends, they can't hear me unless they turn their volume very high. Was very very low, even when using sound voice recorder. Only the microphone is present as you can see in the screenshot. I need my microphone to get work done! Now, before you tell me it's my mic, before Windows 8 I was using xubuntu until I could afford Windows 8. It picked up great. I have tried raising the windows volume control of the microphone but that didn't make much of a difference. Various Skype call recipients could barely hear me. But like every phone, it has its own problems. I welcome any suggestions as soon as possible. Now in order for it to pickup my voice like it did behind the monitor I have to have it literally 1 cm away. I have all the microphone volume settings set to maximum, and have tried doing test recordings in both Skype and the Windows Sound Recorder. They record, but it is extremely low volume, even when I lean closer to the mic and speak loudly. All other applications work fine. It's a built-in microphone and the sound driver is Realtek. I did a driver update check and it has the latest version. I've done possibly everything everyone has said and still no fix. So think no more, just follow these simple steps and this problem will be fixed. A bit of a workaround but it WORKS. Before I start, yes, I have searched the forum for this issue before. It has a great performance and offers a lot of features to its users. I just downloaded Windows 8 last Thursday so all of my updates are installed. Yes i built my PC. You can watch the video or follow the steps below. I updated to the latest drivers for my sound card thing, which I guess is intergrated. So consider this as a simple solution to solve the microphone issue. I hope the Microsoft people can remedy this situation as soon as possible, because it's crucial to fix! I've read that you have to go to the microphone, double click on it, go to the levels tab, and move the lever all the way up, as long as the boost lever. Apparently it has to do with the way the audio config was changed between JB and KK. The microphone volume control on MIXXX is set to max as well. The most strange thing that Nexus 5 users have reported is that when they switch to loudspeaker and then go back again it seems to solve the problem. The music is fine and everything else works great. I've downgraded to skype 6. I could hide it behind my monitor (which is atleast 3 or 4 feet away) and it would still pick up fine. I'm using my mobo's sound card. Try to clean it with compressed air and see if the problem is fixed. I don't have the boost. My microphone was fine. The only thing that records loudly is when I run a finger over the matte plastic of the monitor frame -- that records super loud for some reason. Most of users say that when they switch to loudspeaker the other person can hear you well. Mine it had set to 12. And when you wish to talk in MIXXX click the talk button as usual. I honestly don't know what to do anymore. I have disabled the "adust volume automatically", as well as maxing out my microphone volume. The microphone is in t he right grill at the bottom of the phone. If you'd like to hear some example of how it works now, please feel free to listen to the links below. I've read that you have to go to Communications in the Sound window, and select Do nothing. Some people have reported that only by by covering the second noise-canceling microphone which is at the top of the Nexus 5 can solve the problem. Consider this as another permanent solution until you find the real solution which is causing the problem. Please note that the voice isn't really my real one, just a mock-up one. I hear it, but it is extremely faint and almost garbled. This is not permanent but it is efficient in many situations. I am using a plantronics USB headset that works great with everything else (Skype, and other audio recording apps). I'll show what they sound like next to my face and then what it sounds like where I use to have my mic.
